Hi! My name is Allen Longstreet, and I am the owner and founder of this blog. I’m a published author, concierge at InterContinental Hotels Group, and a university student. Before this past summer, I hadn’t been off the east coast of the United States. That all changed when in December of 2014, just a month and a half from my 22nd birthday, I had an epiphany.
It just suddenly hit me like running face-first into a brick wall.
I realized that I will be 30 in 8 years, and frankly, it scared me.
It frightened me to imagine that I might possibly get stuck in the 9-5 grind, a mortgage, and working for two weeks of vacation every year until retirement.
You know, everything society dictates is the “American Dream”. So in that moment, I made a promise to myself that I would travel as much as possible. So that on the last night of my 29th year, I can look back and say, “Damn, I lived more than most people do in a lifetime.” That way, if I get hit by a bus in some freak accident (no joke, the buses in London will nearly kill you if you don’t stand far enough on the sidewalk) I can know I had a good life. So, working full time at the front desk and going to college full-time, I managed to save a decent bit of money for my trip. I flew to Iceland alone, with my return ticket from London nearly 6 weeks later. I brought an amount of money that someone would blow just on accommodation alone in Western Europe in a week’s time at a decent hotel, and I made it last.
This is what this blog is about.
You do not have to be rich to travel, you don’t need nearly as much money as you think, and you can do it despite what you may believe.
With the tips on this site, I will help you become a cheap travel pro. I want to help you go beyond your border. There is so much to see in this world, and you can do it too.
